Birthday Blessings and Bible Truths

In our last episode, we talked about the power of declaring God’s promises over our lives. Today, we’re going to build on that foundation with a fun and actionable way to speak life over people using their birthdays to look up scripture. This is not only a wonderful way to bless others, but it’s also a beautiful opportunity to spend time with God as you seek out these verses.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Ask God for Guidance: Start by praying and asking God to lead you to the right verse for the person you’re thinking of. This intentional prayer time is a meaningful way to connect with God and invite His presence into your process.

  2. Look Up the Birthday: Take the person’s birth date and find a corresponding scripture reference. For example, if someone’s birthday is March 16th, you might look up John 3:16 or another 3:16 verse from a different book of the Bible.

  3. Read and Reflect: As you find the verse, read it carefully and reflect on its meaning. Ask God to reveal how this verse applies to the person’s life and how it can encourage and uplift them.

  4. Share the Verse: Write the verse down in a card, send it in a message, or share it in person. Or, get a little more creative with it. If you paint, draw, or use some other medium, create a small gift or token featuring the verse. I’ll share examples of some of the ones I’ve done over the years in just a bit.
And then, let the person know that you prayed and felt led to this particular scripture for them. These personal touches can make the verse even more impactful and meaningful.
  1. Spend Time with God: As you search for verses and reflect on their meanings, you’re also spending quality time with God. This practice not only blesses others but enriches your own spiritual journey as well.

Here’s the first example:

My god-daughter’s birthday is June 11. After praying and looking through 6:11 verses and 61:1 verses (it’s completely okay to move where the semi-colon goes), I felt like God was pointing me to Ephesians 6:11.

If you’re familiar, that’s the passage on the armor of God. And to be honest, that didn’t seem like a very birthday-ish verse. So, I asked Him to explain. He did, and here’s what I wrote:

This year, when I thought about what God might want to say to you on your very special day, I decided to look up your birthday in scripture (6:11).

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:11

That didn’t really seem like a birthday kind of message to me…until God explained.

There is one piece of armor not listed in the verses about the armor of God: the crown.

God wants you to remember to also put on your crown. It is a symbol of your identity as a royal daughter of the King. As His daughter, you have His favor, His blessing, His protection.

Put on your crown, Daughter of God, so that you can take your stand against the enemy’s schemes to attack your identity.”

I gave this to her in the form of a letter with her name beautifully scripted at the top along with a simple turquoise crown. I also gave her a necklace with a simple crown pendant.

And before you stress about not being creative, let me share a super-easy tip: CANVA. Canva is free, easy to use, and has all kinds of graphics, fonts, and templates. That’s what I used.

And the added gift of a necklace wasn’t necessary but I wanted her to have it as a reminder of her identity as a Daughter of God. Just ask Holy Spirit for ideas.

Here’s another example that highlights how meaningful and simple this practice can be.

My friend and coworker has a birthday on February 26th, or 2/26. The verse God gave me for her was Acts 2:26.

No wonder my heart is glad, and my tongue shouts his praises! My body rests in hope.”

She is a joyful believer, and it fit her perfectly. Using purple watercolor, her favorite color, I scripted her name and wrote out the verse below it.

It was a super-simple piece, and she loved it. It now hangs in her office, and when I gave it to her, she was so happy to see her name on it. She said that no one ever gives her gifts with her name on them. The color, the verse, her name—it was easy to make, and it was special to her.

The point is, the whole process IS spending time with God.

Praying, asking for guidance, searching through scripture. Deciding how to share the verse. All of it is a way of spending time with God. And the end result is also a sweet and meaningful blessing for someone else.

This simple practice can have a profound impact, bringing joy and encouragement to others while deepening your own faith. It’s a beautiful way to weave God’s word into our daily interactions and to remind each other of His promises.

Unlike other forms of prayer where we might be more focused on sharing our requests or even worshipping God – both of which He invites us to do– in Listening Prayers we pause in quiet stillness, creating space for God to speak into our hearts. This is a time for intentional listening, where we set aside our words and let God lead the conversation.
