What Is the Meantime Season—and Why Does It Matter?

The walls are painted. The fig tree is standing. The books are stacked.
Everything’s here. But nothing’s quite in place.
I walk into the studio and glance around—at the shelves still waiting to be styled, the cords waiting to be hidden, the chair not yet tucked into its cozy corner. I know this space will hold so much good. I can already picture the recordings, the journaling workshops, the late-night prayers whispered as I prep something new. But right now? It’s not ready. And neither am I.
There’s a hush in this room I didn’t expect.
A silence that’s not empty—but full.
Full of possibility.
Full of presence.
Finding God in the Meantime Moments
This is the meantime—the space between what was and what will be.
Between the obedience and the outcome.
Between the prayer and the provision.
It’s the place where we’ve said yes to God—but haven’t seen the fruit yet.
The ground feels still. Quiet. Even undone.
And yet… maybe this is the holy ground where something is softening.
“Break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the Lord…”
Hosea 10:12, KJV
Fallow ground isn’t wasted. It’s just not blooming yet.
It’s a resting field, a space of deep preparation.
And that’s not easy. Especially in a world that claps for progress and prizes the finished product.
I’ve been reading Growing Slow by Jennifer Dukes Lee, and it’s been a gentle nudge to honor this very space—the quiet middle. It reminded me that not every season is for harvesting. Some are for tending. Some are for preparing. And some are simply for being still with God.

Because God doesn’t rush His work.
He meets us in the middle.
He strengthens us in the silence.
In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength…
Isaiah 30:15, NIV
Biblical Encouragement for the Meantime Season
This isn’t the season of producing.
It’s the season of placing. Preparing. Trusting.
God is here in the arranging.
In the not-quite-ready.
In the hush of a studio—and a heart—being made ready for what’s next.

Cultivations
for the heart
Where in your life do things feel present but not yet placed?
What is God softening, arranging, or preparing—quietly?
for the Spirit
Lord, thank You for meeting me in the middle.
In the not-yet-finished places, teach me how to trust You.
Help me rest in the quiet, seek You in the slow,
and believe You’re already at work in the unseen.
for the journey
Take 5 minutes this week to walk through a space that feels “unfinished”—physically or spiritually. As you do, invite God to show you how He’s working beneath the surface.
