Embracing a New Season

Whether the new season is inviting you or you are tugging at it, God has much to tell us about stepping into a new season.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

1 Corinthians 2:9

Embracing a New Season

I sense a shift
A piece of me pulling toward the life and the person I want to be.

The slower pace.
The simpler space.
The connection to earth and food.

And part of me wants to announce it…
perhaps as a way to grab hold.

Not let it slip away.

But part of me wants to keep it silent, because…
what it if doesn’t “stick”?
Again.

Instead, I’ll gratefully acknowledge and welcome it
–this gentle whisper of hope–
Thank it for visiting me.
For inviting me.

Ask how best I can cooperate with it.
Partner with it.
But not cling to it.

This idea of living lighter and with more love.
Free-er and with open hands.
Slower and with less to slow me down.

I jotted this down in January 2020 while battling a severe illness that even my doctor couldn’t quite identify. By March, the illness had a name. Covid.

I had been home sick for two solid weeks, and I slept for much of the time. Toward the end of my respite, I started to hear the gentle, quiet voice of God.

This period of forced stillness gave my mind space and permission to wander and to wonder. To hear Holy Spirit more clearly than in the last four event-filled months at work.

Fall, in Mineral Wells, where I serve as the Director of Tourism, is overwhelmingly packed with events. It’s good work. But it’s exhausting work too. Both physically and mentally.

Embracing a New Season with God

Taking time to be still, to linger with God, to listen for His whispers feels like a ridiculously unattainable desire during that time of year. I’m betting you have those seasons too.

God did move me into a new season that year. If you’ve read my post about Trusting God With Your Dreams, or Gratitude Expressed, you already know some of those stories.

The following year, 2021, was another year where I felt the Father pulling me into “the life and the person I want to be.”

Every year is…isn’t it? But the last three years have felt especially transformative.

Now, here we are embracing another new year and those words feel as relevant and true as when I first penned them. I feel that familiar whisper of hope inviting me yet again to step into a new season. A new adventure moving me toward the destiny He prepared for me from the beginning. Maybe you do too.

Or maybe seeing the calendar announce a new year has you longing for change, hoping for something new, or praying for transformation. Whether the new season is inviting you or you are tugging at it, God has much to tell us about stepping into a new season.

For our Scripture Cultivations this month, let’s dig deep into the soil of God’s Word to find wisdom, hope, and truth as we prepare ourselves for the “new thing” He is calling us to.

Let’s “ask how best [we] can cooperate with it.
Partner with it.
But not cling to it
.“

Listening Prayers: Quiet the Soul and Learn to Hear God

Unlike other forms of prayer where we might be more focused on sharing our requests or even worshipping God – both of which He invites us to do– in Listening Prayers we pause in quiet stillness, creating space for God to speak into our hearts. This is a time for intentional listening, where we set aside our words and let God lead the conversation.
